In the last forty eight hours before the UPSC ISS interview, stop taking in anything new, revise your own form and your district, read the latest official statistics releases once, prepare your documents, reach Delhi early enough to see the route to Dholpur House, and sleep. The interview is twenty to thirty minutes of honest conversation, and everything in these two days should make you calmer, not fuller.
This is Day 21, the last post of this series. Whenever your e-summon letter names your date, this is the page to open. As of early September, UPSC had not yet published the interview schedule; the application window closed on 25 August, and your exact date and session will arrive through the e-summon letter, with the schedule on the What’s New section of upsc.gov.in.
Forty eight hours out: your form and your home
Read your submitted form one final time, line by line, and say your introduction aloud twice. Speak your district’s seven numbers and its one story. Run the three level probe on each hobby yourself. If any line still fails the five minute test, spend tonight’s hour on that line and nothing else, because that is where a board will go first.
Thirty six hours out: the 2026 official statistics page
Read this once, slowly. It is the year’s changes in one place, every line verified against official releases, and it is the most likely technical territory a 2026 board will test.
The Consumer Price Index moved to a 2024 base on 12 February 2026, built on the consumption survey of 2023-24, with 358 items and international classification; the first reading, for January 2026, was 2.75 percent. GDP moved to a 2022-23 base on 27 February 2026, with double deflation in manufacturing and agriculture and supply use integration; the release estimated 7.6 percent real growth for 2025-26. The Wholesale Price Index moved to a 2022-23 base in June 2026 with 957 items, alongside India’s first Producer Price Indices, and WPI is scheduled to be phased out over five years in favour of the PPI. The Periodic Labour Force Survey has released monthly bulletins covering rural and urban India since 2025. Census 2027 is in its houselisting phase through September 2026, with population enumeration and caste enumeration in February 2027. And the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified in November 2025, bringing the 2023 Act into force in phases.
Then open mospi.gov.in and note the latest month’s CPI reading, the latest PLFS unemployment rate, and the latest quarterly GDP release, because a real board asked a recent topper whether they follow MoSPI releases, and the correct answer includes a number with its month.
Twenty four hours out: documents, clothes, route, sleep
Documents in one folder, in the order of the press note: the e-summon letter in two printed copies, and originals with photocopies for age, educational qualifications, community certificate where applicable, and benchmark disability certificate where applicable. The press note is explicit that a candidate without the required originals is not allowed before the board.
Clothes chosen and pressed, the ones you rehearsed in on Day 18. Then the route: reach Delhi early enough to travel once to Dholpur House on Shahjahan Road before your day, as one past candidate did, so that the morning holds no surprises. Travel reimbursement in recent cycles has covered second class or sleeper class rail fare, so keep your tickets.
And sleep. Nothing you could read tonight is worth more than a rested mind at nine in the morning.
The morning
A light breakfast. Leave your phone at your hotel or with a companion, because phones are banned on the UPSC campus, and carry a printed copy of anything you would otherwise open on a screen. Arrive early for your session. In the waiting hall, revise only your own form, breathe, and leave everyone else’s preparation alone.
In the room: greet, sit when invited, one breath before every answer, the truth at the edge of your knowledge, and a calm thank you at the end. That is the whole performance, and you have rehearsed every piece of it for twenty one days.
The honest arithmetic
Ninety four candidates qualified this year, and the notification for this cycle listed forty four vacancies across the Economic and Statistical Services, sixteen of them for the Economic Service. The interview will decide much of who fills them. It will do so in twenty five minutes, in front of a board that, in every public account we have read, was kinder than the candidate expected, and it will reward candidates who scored between 100 and 145 out of 200 while saying I do not know several times. You are not walking into a trial. You are walking into a conversation you have prepared for better than almost anyone in that hall.
The close of the series
Today the third and final free resource of this series goes out: Official Statistics Rapid Revision for the Interview, the surveys, the indices, the national accounts and the 2026 changes, compressed into the answer lengths a board actually allows. Everyone on the Interview 2026 list receives it automatically.
That list stays open until the final result, for questions, for revision, and for the day you want to tell someone how it went. When your interview is done, come back and tell us what was asked. Next year’s candidates will prepare from your account the way you prepared from those of the candidates before you.
21 days. Practice. Improve. Repeat.
