Examination Schedule

The examination runs across three weekends:

  • 6 and 7 February 2027
  • 13 and 14 February 2027
  • 20 and 21 February 2027

Each day has two sessions, forenoon and afternoon. The exact date and session for your paper will be printed on your admit card. Until the admit card is released, nobody can tell you which day your paper falls on, and any website claiming otherwise is guessing.

GATE 2027 Registration

Registration is completed online through the GATE Online Application Processing System, known as GOAPS.

Step by Step Process

  1. Create an account on the GOAPS portal using a valid email address and mobile number
  2. Enter your personal details and academic qualification
  3. Select your test paper, for example Statistics (ST)
  4. Choose your examination city preferences
  5. Upload your photograph, signature and category documents where applicable
  6. Complete the live facial detail capture where required
  7. Pay the application fee online
  8. Review every detail carefully before submitting
  9. Submit the application
  10. Download and save the confirmation page

One email address can be used for only one GATE application. Do not create multiple accounts.

DigiLocker Is Mandatory This Year

This is the change that catches most applicants off guard. Registration through DigiLocker is mandatory for all Indian nationals applying to GATE 2027.

Your name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, photograph, address and verified identity information are fetched directly from DigiLocker during the application. If your DigiLocker account is not verified, the application stalls halfway through.

Create or update your verified DigiLocker account today rather than in the final week. Portal traffic increases sharply near the deadline and verification can take time.

GATE 2027 Application Fee

Candidate CategoryRegular PeriodExtended Period
Female, SC, ST and PwD candidatesRs 1,000Rs 1,500
All other candidatesRs 2,000Rs 2,500

The fee is charged per paper. If you apply for two papers, you pay for both. Payment is online only, through net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. The fee is not refundable once paid, and the late fee during the extended period is Rs 500 for every category.

A category certificate is required only for candidates claiming the concessional fee.

GATE 2027 Eligibility

GATE 2027 has no age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts.

You can generally appear for GATE 2027 if you:

  • Are currently studying in the third year or higher of an eligible undergraduate programme, or
  • Have completed an eligible degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities, or
  • Meet the professional degree conditions specified in the official Information Brochure

Examination Eligibility Is Not Admission Eligibility

This distinction costs students every year, so it is worth stating plainly.

TypeWhat It Decides
GATE EligibilityWhether you can appear for the examination
Admission EligibilityWhether you can apply to a particular programme or institute

You may be fully eligible to write GATE and still not satisfy the academic requirements of a specific postgraduate or doctoral programme. Individual IITs, IISc and other institutions set their own admission requirements. Read the admission notification of your target institute separately, before you build your plans around a GATE score.

Appearing for Two Papers

GATE 2027 allows candidates to appear for one or two papers, subject to the permitted combinations. The second paper carries its own application fee.

For candidates selecting Statistics (ST) as the primary paper, the currently permitted secondary papers are:

CodePaper
CSComputer Science and Information Technology
DAData Science and Artificial Intelligence
MAMathematics
XHHumanities and Social Sciences

Permitted combinations differ depending on your primary paper. Check the official two paper combination list in the Information Brochure before you pay for a second paper.

Registration Is the Easy Part

The application takes an afternoon. The paper takes five months of preparation. Chakravyuh Mock gives you 53 tests for GATE Statistics 2027, all eight ST previous year papers on the real exam interface, General Aptitude in every full length mock, and All India Rank in every test.

What to Do After Applying

Three things matter more than anything else once your application is submitted.

  1. Download your paper’s official syllabus and use it as your only checklist. For Statistics, see the complete 12 section breakdown.
  2. Understand the question formats before you start practising, because MCQ, MSQ and NAT each need a different approach. Read the exam pattern and marking scheme.
  3. Start previous year papers early, topic by topic, not saved for January. For Statistics, download all eight ST papers.
