Choose Your Paper
Statistics (ST)
The paper for students who want to study Statistics mathematically rather than as applied data work. Twelve syllabus sections covering probability, distributions, inference, stochastic processes, multivariate analysis and regression. Introduced in 2019, so eight previous year papers exist.
Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA)
Coming soon. DA is one of the two papers Statistics students most often pair with ST, and it draws heavily on probability, statistics and linear algebra.
Mathematics (MA)
Coming soon. MA is the other common pairing for Statistics students, particularly those from a mathematics background.
What Is GATE?
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national level examination conducted jointly by IISc and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 test papers, all in Computer Based Test mode and in English. A valid GATE score is used for admission to eligible postgraduate and doctoral programmes, and some Public Sector Undertakings use GATE scores during recruitment.
The score is valid for three years from the date of the result announcement. There is no age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts.
Qualifying GATE does not automatically guarantee admission, financial assistance or employment. Each institute and each recruiter sets its own rules.
Can You Appear for Two Papers?
Yes. GATE 2027 allows candidates to appear for one or two papers, subject to the permitted combinations.
For candidates selecting Statistics (ST) as the primary paper, the currently permitted secondary papers are:
| Code | Paper |
|---|---|
| CS | Computer Science and Information Technology |
| DA | Data Science and Artificial Intelligence |
| MA | Mathematics |
| XH | Humanities and Social Sciences |
The application fee is charged per paper, so two papers means paying twice. Before you decide, be honest about whether you have the time to prepare two papers well rather than two papers poorly.
